Tarutao
National Park consists of 51 islands.
PaddleAsia
offer canoeing tour packages to the most impressive
tropical islands in this national park. The biggest
island, Tarutao Island, is fifteen nautical miles long.
The only human habitation is at the national park headquarters,
the former political prison, and a small bird-nest collecting
village. The rest of the island is covered in lush tropical
jungle. We frequently get the privilege of paddling
with a pod of dolphins!
Tarutao
Wildilfe
Wildlife
is abundant in Tarutao National Park.
Long-tail
Macaques (monkeys) and big monitor lizards both meander
along the secluded beaches in search of food. Several
species of kingfishers such as Brown-winged, Collared,
and Black-capped are common in this national park. Brahminy
kites and White-bellied sea eagles (both raptors) soar
high in the skies. Pacific Reef egrets wait patiently
on rocks to spear small fish with their bills.
Each
of our trip leaders
has canoed extensively in Tarutao National Park. We
know every inch of the most stunning tropical islands.
There are many fine secluded islands that you can explore
at your leisure in our comfortable touring canoes. In
these areas, you can truly relax and enjoy the natural
beauty of the national park.
You
get to camp instead of staying in noisy bungalows.
Sadly, Ko Lipe is rapidly turning into yet another party
island. PaddleAsia employs some local sea gypsies, the
least fortunate of the islanders when it comes to benefit
from tourism, as the camping crew.
You
can enjoy the outer islands with a wonderful view of
turquoise-blue water and other islands. The laid back
quality of island life is a welcomed relief from the
busy life that many of our guests live. Deluxe camping
means electricity for lights, fans and entertainment
(if desired). A dining tent is provided as is a solar
shower facility.
Tarutao
National Marine Park is very close to the
Malaysian border. We a large motorboat to access the
outer islands as they are 30+ nautical miles offshore.
These tropical islands feature crystal clear water and
thick old-growth tropical jungle. Huge trees line the
many secluded beaches. Several cold springs flow from
the mountains to the beaches.
The
snorkeling
at these islands
is as good as anywhere in Southeast Asia! There are
many bays where the coral is undamaged. The marinelife
is abundant and extremely diverse.
